“Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in where nature may heal and cheer and give strength to the body and soul.” John Muir
on the day after thanksgiving we opted out of the black friday madness (except perhaps for the speedy online purchase of a very cute rug at anthropologie i made at 6 in the morning) and decided to go to muir woods.
being in the midst of so much beauty and stillness is quite remarkable.
good for us & good for our daughters too
to slow down
observe
be quiet
examine
listen
(good for the soul)
amen.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite places on earth. Wish I lived in Northern CA so that I could opt for a day in Muir woods every once in awhile... kind of hard to do from NC! I love that John Muir quote as well, have that one hanging on my wall. Great pics, thanks for sharing :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, those woods are beautiful! The trees in Northern California get so BIG. We have little spindly trees out here - I miss those giant sentinels of the forest!
ReplyDeletethey really are so remarkable and HUGE!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh, redwoods! I love the way the descendents form a ring around the parent tree that long ago died away and rotted, so that you can walk inside the circle and feel like you're in some magical cathedral. When I was in HS we always went to the one down near Santa Cruz (Cowell State Park? don't remember the name) every Memorial Day and Labor Day... and then of course the glory of spending my college years in a redwood forest.
ReplyDeletelove the quote, love the beautiful trees, love your family, love you! so glad you got to do that.
